Dr. Art Bowler, Psy.D.’s Summary

As a clinical psychologist who has practiced across the country, I have helped individuals, couples, and communities benefit from my expertise as both a psychologist and a consultant. By altering well-meaning yet dysfunctional patterns strategically, working via a psychodynamic framework, many have asserted they have functioned at a higher and better level in many ways. I, of course, am grateful that I can be of help now in my New York based practice.

Having attained my doctorate at 25, I have over ten-plus years of clinical experience and expertise from a variety of the best clinical trainers and training settings. My education led me from New York to Pennsylvania, to Ohio and then to California, and I have been fortunate to be presented with tremendous diversity-training, both in life and in practice, along my path. My intelligence enabled me to attend one of the finest doctoral programs in the country as well as enabled me to attain one of the top three pre-doctoral internship settings in the country at the University of Southern California (USC).

Over the years I have practiced in university counseling centers, community mental health settings, not-for-profit agencies, inpatient and outpatient substance abuse rehabilitation facilities, as well as my own private practices. My presentations on diversity issues, identity, and substance abuse treatment have been well-received.

Having worked in multiple treatment settings (see experience in detail) has given me an edge which I believe allows me to better help and treat my clients. My treatment specialties include depression and anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues, grief and loss, trauma recovery, and substance abuse treatment. I am dynamic and personable, and believe psychotherapy with a psychologist should be, and with me, certainly is, an "Art".
