Research assistant at EPFL & Founder of DB4ALL
Geneva Area, Switzerland
PhD
--------------
I researched how to improve user confidence in decision support systems for electronic catalogs, e.g. how to assist in shopping, deciding where to go for holidays or deciding your vote in an election.
That is, how to make the users feel confident that they have found the right product in your catalog. It helps to achieve a higher purchase conversion rate.
Start-up
---------------
After the PhD which I will finish in December 2006, we plan to start a company on the domain of Databases, Decision Support Systems and Information Extraction. Our aim is to promote the use of databases to end-users and small businesses. By databases we refer to the content (list of books, movies, restaurants, jobs...) rather than the software.
DB4ALL provides services for extracting data from websites into a structured form, in a time record and at very competitive fees.
Employment opportunities: Project-based contracts on the following domains:
* Databases
* Information Extraction & Machine learning
* Website implementation and design
* Generic projects using C/C++, Java and python
If you are interested in joining our team, please send your Resume and Motivation Letter to: david.portabella@gmail.com
