My new position conveys my responsibility held in all areas of software design, development and deployment and builds on my existing experience of development, but also being able to turn my hand to any area that requires attention, including softwre architecture.
To build upon my database skills, I am currently in the process of going through my MCTS/MCITP exams for SQL Database Developer path.
I also am interesting in finding out a lot more about Silverlight, LINQ, .NET 3.5 and WPF. -

In Business & Decision, I have worked on the development of several projects, using my knowledge of both Windows and Web applications to provide innovative solutions for our customers.
My skills include the development of an e-commerce web site, which provides hangers and labelling to any business in the world. The project combines communication with several servers around the world over different platforms. Developing consistency where none was available is a major feat of this project. This project combined web applications, web services, BizTalk 2006 and SQL 2005 to provide this solution.
Also, development of an efficient Windows Service, interfacing with custom built web services and securely encrypting and transferring information over the internet was an important goal of this projects. This had to be efficient and extremely robust to handle the complexity of data being extracted and transmitted. -

Nationwide Building Society are the world's largest building society, employing over 10'000 employess in over 600 branches & 200 agencies. including head offices.
My division was responsible for the development and maintenance of all in-house software.
My projects include designing, implementing and maintaining a new till system, saving £25'000 pa on license costs, developing cutting edge proof-of-concept applications for new systems. In order to get maximum efficiency out of future projects, I also developed drivers to interface with passbook printers.
Aside from my main roles, I was a team motivator - arranging community events, charity events and speaking up on the events that matter to the team. I was also involved with training users on an in-house built API. I was also interested in the users feedback for our software and regularly visited branches and gained feedback to improve the user experience. -
Customer Advisor & Developer

My initial time in Nationwide was spent working for the Interest Calculations department. I proposed that I could develop a more cost-effective, resource reducing method to help calculate interest efficiently and accurately. The department was responsible for the calculation and verfication of the interest paid to their customers. This is all calculated with pen and paper.
I was responsible for the development and maintenance of an Interest calculator, which completed more than 10 times the work a single employee could carry out in a day.
The calculator I developed using VBA in Excel, allowed the dates and amounts to be entered at which point the spreadsheet would tally the amount received.
All 8 employees were trained to work with the spreadsheet application, meaning that users could complete nearly 80-100 customer queries EACH instead of 1-8 a day.
This work set the groundwork for my next role within Nationwide, into the IT division.
