    (Research industry)

    July 2008Present (1 year 5 months)

CPS training from IRCI of Philadelphia, PA, in Richmond, VA, June 1-13, 2008, in a class of 19. All graduated. Registered NPID. Bills Medicare only. Pro bono and on-account services available.

Uses Echo, Mirror, Validate, Empathize model to destigmatize the experience of veterans and survivors in the Northern Virginia 5-county area. Faciliates applications for benefits from VA, SSA, Medicare, Virginia DMAS (Medicaid), and local governments. Guides SMI and forensic in- and out- patients in wellness recovery action planning from "How did you get here?", through "What has happened to you?", to "Where do you want to go from here?" Facilitates access to alternative therapies and therapeutic modalities. Encourages access to community resources and development of a strong and caring community of choice. Entertains and relieves tension in difficult moments with humor, improvisation, and direct acknowledgement of emotional content and human context.

  • Owner and Experimental Machinist

    Replikon Research

    (Research industry)

    March 1985Present (24 years 9 months)

As the Owner, I maintain and upgrade information technology, and represent the company's interests at meetings.

As an Experimental Machinist, I machine parts and assemble products of wood, metal, plastic, glass, paper, fabric, and stone, expand sketches, verbal descriptions and instructions, and drawings into standard mechanical drawing form, and reduce those drawings through production engineering experimentation to manufacturing schedules with costs for consideration of funding for production.

    Projects:

MOEPED (the MObile Experimental Physics Educational Demostrator), an electric-flywheel bicycle.

The Seasonal Affective Disorder Coffee Table (the Coffee Light): a frame with legs holding a fluorescent "troffer" fixture of 120 watt capacity providing 10,000 lux intensity.

The Universal Constructor: a wood and metal working machine tool that can fixture every part of itself, jig all necessary tooling and form every every feature of every part of itself by combining the open work envelopes characteristic of wood working machinery with the closed work envelopes characteristic of machine tools, using feature projection and refinement.

  • Co-Secretary and Lead Contact for Assistive Technology

    Regional Recovery Workgroup

    (Mental Health Care industry)

    March 2006September 2007 (1 year 7 months)

Maintained and distributed membership list with affiliations and contact information. Converted Microsoft Word and other document types to Adobe Portable Document type (PDF). Distributed notes and other materials to members and to the sponsor, the Regional Strategic Planning Partnership.

Developed a $90,000 biennially funded proposal to distribute assistive technology to homeless veterans and others with SMI (Serious Mental Illness) including forensic and transitioning populations to ameliorate conserquences or symptoms of isolation, disorganization, and poverty, and more.

Note: This was and remains a volunteer group, position, and affiliation.

  • Experimental Machinist

    Aerophysics (Self-employed)

    (Self-Employed; 1-10 employees; Research industry)

    19851986 (1 year )

Jan Bochenek, Bill Jackson, Francis Sullivan, and I built the lift fans for the 100 knot (no turns) US Navy experimental attack boat SES 2000, but Congress cancelled the project and the fans sit rusting in outdoor storage in Brentwood, MD. We also did some exhibit work there. Jan had asked us to work but offered no benefits on a contract basis, so I coined the name "Replikon Research" and it stuck.

  • Skip Tracer

    SallieMae

    (Public Company; Financial Services industry)

    March 1984August 1984 (6 months)

Attended meetings, located forwarding addresses for returned mail using 411 and other directories. Cold-called and asked of questions of references given with student loan applications to determine forwarding addresses for individuals from whom payments had not been received. Entered logs into permanent log using text terminal.

  • Student Sales Trainee

    Southwestern Company

    (Privately Held; Publishing industry)

    May 1978September 1978 (5 months)

Introduced, demonstrated, closed, and delivered about $1800 wholesale value of the company's Student Handbook and other reference books to families in Chicago, IL.

Doug Goncz’s Education

  • Northern Virginia Community College

    20012011 (expected)

Fermat's Last Theorem in Modular Ariithmetic (FLTMA):

We know there are no x,y,z,and n>2 in Z such that
z^n = x^n + y^n, and we wonder whether there are any such x,y,z,n in Z such that
z^n, z^(n-1), etc., divides x^n + y^n. Usenet newsgroup user "quasi" has provided a counterexample to an overly strong proposition, that there are no x,y,z,and n>2 in Z such that
    z divides x^n + y^n or no x,y,z in Z and p>2 in P such that
z divides x^p + y^p with a few other constraints. This counterexample was at p=11. Trivially,
    z^0 divides x^n + y^n.

    Activities and Societies:
Secretary, Student Physics Society / PHY 298 Seminar and Project in Physics: Inductrack Levitation Model. SPS Zone 4 Conference, Randolph College, April 17-18 coming soon with poster sessions "A Water Rocket Students Can Build and Evaluate", and "Single Bubble Single Flash Sononluminescence Apparatus".
  • Institute for Recovery and Community Integration

    Certificate , M.H. Recovery Seminar 1: Learning Recovery incl. WRAP , 20082008

    Peer Bomb Day at NVMHI.

    Activities and Societies:
Now have an NPID and can bill Medicare for peer support once the course from Copeland Institute certifying ability to teach WRAP one-on-one is finished.
  • Institute for Recovery and Community Integration

Certificate , CPS: Certified Peer Specialist , 20082008

Extensively used the fax available at the front desk to print a variety of customized documents, mostly single page, for use in or for the training.

    Activities and Societies:
CPST Times, resource list, Alumni Directory, Insomniacs, Swimmers, and a new resource for fish bowl experiences
  • London International Youth Science Fortnight

    None , Interdisciplinary Science , 19771997

Well, the Rocky Horror Picture Show live had to be a highlight of the event! It was young then. So was I! Visiting Stonehenge was a close second.

Attendees note I have the red paper Program, the schedule for 5 August with performances from every represented country, and the following issues of The Science Fortnight Times, London 1977:

    Un-numbered issue (Vol. 19, No. 1, perhaps)
Vol. 19, No. 2, 1 AUG 77, Editor: Mary Black
Vol. 19, No. 3, 3 AUG 77, Editor: Mary Black

    Activities and Societies:
Presented "Design of an Inexpensive Music Synthesizer Keyboard" to 100 students from around the world. One judge advised me such a design would be easily patented in the UK or the USA.
  • Northern Virginia Community College

    A.A.S. M.E.T. , CAD/CAM , 19811990

A big Hello to Robert Woodke, Dr. Napisa, and Dave Bezdeczny.

    Activities and Societies:
I liked the Foundry best, and Robotics second best. Helped build ingot molds and milled plates cast by students into correctly sized, flat stock for jig and fixture projects. Riddled the sand when necessary. Only injured one other student during the entire course of study, by violating the rule "One machine, One operator". Safety, Comfort, and Fun are the guidelines for all work since then.
  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology

    Interdisciplinary Science 19771979

Two and one-half years at MIT. After only a few years at the CoCo, I had the academic credentials to return, but they are still waiting for the day I am ready to return.

    Activities and Societies:
Beth Soll taught a modern dance class there and I stuck with it to the point we did an outdoor rehearsal. Played a stick-bass I built in the Hobby Shop in Guys and Dolls. Soloed on a jazz number with the Band. (I heard that solo on a grunge-rock recrord years later, as a mix-in)
  • Hanau American High School

    19751977

  • Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology
