As managing editor of two regional publications, a business journal and a home-and-garden magazine, I coordinated and edited editorial content and oversaw the editorial end of the monthly production process.

As associate editor of the alternative newsweekly the Chico News & Review, I played a leadership role in putting out this award-winning publication while also producing thousands of articles over nearly a decade, from investigative journalism to features to spot news. I also wrote a widely read weekly column for this paper on the topic of local business news. I won a few California Newspaper Publishers Association awards and was also named Media Partner of the Year by the Butte County Farm Bureau.

At this twice-weekly community newspaper, I coordinated, wrote for and edited more than 50 themed special-section inserts each year. I also wrote features and covered breaking news, with my main "beat" being San Luis Obispo County government and courts.

While in college, I worked steadily for Arcata's weekly newspaper as a freelance writer and photographer. I covered all meetings of the Blue Lake and Trinidad city councils, wrote many features and scooped the nearby daily paper on news stories. (The paper is now defunct).

I spent much of my time in college in section-editor roles at The Lumberjack weekly newspaper. I was named "top news-editorial graduate" with a GPA of 3.8. I also worked part time at the university library throughout college. The summer after college I worked at the Eureka Times-Standard and the Eureka Baking Company in Arcata. My name at the time was Devanie Anderson.
