I live in Jozi (JHB) and am qualified as a radio journalist, and love working in the online media and communications industry in South Africa. My career in the social media and in online media marketing is especially fulfilling.
I'm a journalist turned professional blogger. I work for a social media and mobile company called Cerebra and own my own blog, Deshanta's World. I love meeting new people and writing is above all my most favourite pastime. I also enjoy varying degrees of music, books, technology, movies, art, and enjoy hanging with all kinds of people on and off the Web.
My work is based on social media content optimization across many platforms which include blogs, wikis, social networking sites and community management thereof. I help corporate companies understand the use of such skills and tools in building a positive online identity as well how to financially leverage off such social media to create a successful business online.

BJourn , English, Journalism and Media Studies , 2001 — 2004
In 2003, I was voted in as New House Residence's Head Student and fulfilled my duties on the House Committee. In 2004, I was awarded a Jan Smuts Hall Merit Award, which is the first time this award went to a New House resident.
Throughout my degree, I partook in internships at various radio stations and agencies (DDB South Africa, Kaya fm, 94.7 Highveld Stereo) to gain valuable work experience. My longest internship and my most memorable was at Yfm where I worked as a reporter in the newsroom from 2003 - 2004 and I was published in the Aug/Sept 2002 edition of Y Mag for an article on domestic violence and abuse against women.
