Derrek Wayne's influences include Johnny Mercer, Paul McCartney, Emmit Rhodes, Paul Simon, Harry Nilsson, Sammy Davis Jr, Brian Wilson, Billie Joel, Freddie Mercury, Jack White and Nellie McKay. His music is written in the tradition of music which can be shared by many artists. Jazz and four part Barbershop harmony are the basis of Derrek's style and technique. His subjects are autobiographical and universal.
Derrek's first album, Things That Summer Brings, was self-recored in Eugene Oregon in 2007. On the strength of that recording, Derrek was chosen to perform in the December 2007 episode of Scratch PDX, Portland Oregon's monthly performance lab. In April of 2008, Derrek returned to the Scratch PDX stage as the special musical guest. In May of 2008, Derrek opened The Independent Film Revival at the Broadway Theatre. Derrek continues work on his second album, projected for release early 2009.
