Dennis Bacsafra’s Summary

After graduating from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in Computer Science and Economics, I worked for various companies in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have also been involved with small to large-scale software engineering projects for consumer goods, finance, biotech and industrial design institutions in Silicon Valley. In addition, I hold a Master's Degree in International Development Studies from the Universiteit van Amsterdam in The Netherlands. My graduate school thesis is an assessment on the impacts of micro-finance on rural poverty.

In 2006, I started a metaverse consulting company... Avatrian. The company provides products and services for 3D online digital worlds such as Second Life. It is headquartered in Emeryville, CA and has an operations base in Cebu, Philippines. I started Avatrian because it fulfills three of my most fervent goals...entrepreneurial, technological, and developmental. My avatar in Second Life is Chenin Anabuki who can often be found in SL teleporting to various sites while overseeing in-world projects at Avatrian.

When I have free time (which is rare lately), I enjoy drinking tea, reading Harry Potter and snowboarding down a black-diamond run at Lake Tahoe. Fortunate enough to travel and visit over fifty cities in the world, I consider Barcelona as my favorite. When asked about my proudest achievement, I always recall the time when I hiked by myself to the peak of the High Atlas mountains in Morocco. It was when I realized how much more I am capable of doing.

I am also an aspiring polyglot. Apart from English, I am versed in Tagalog at a native-speaker level. I am conversant in Spanish. Have also been exposed to Dutch (but found Germanic languages very tricky). And now, I'm absorbing the Cebuano dialect. Next up, Mandarin (if I ever find the time and intestinal fortitude for it).
