Co-founder of Appozite, Doctoral Candidate in Organizational Communication
Austin, Texas Area
I'm a professional communicator with nearly ten years of industry and academic experience in corporate communications, research and reporting, web community management, and social media. Throughout my career, my role has been to translate and make accessible technical, specialized information for clients. I've worked on both internal-facing and external-facing projects and have extensive writing and speaking experience.
I'm currently the co-founder and Chief of Community Experience of a software startup specializing in social e-commerce - Appozite. My main responsibilities are coordinating and deploying Appozite's public relations, marketing and social media strategies, focusing on our CheapTweet application. CheapTweet (http://cheaptweet) is a Twitter-based deals website and has been featured in numerous publications and media outlets, including MSNBC.com, CNN Money, Parents Magazine, Business Week, PC World, CNET, TechCrunch, Mashable and many others.
I'm also a doctoral candidate at the University of Texas at Austin in Organizational Communication, where I'm finishing up my dissertation about how always-on mobile internet and communication access impacts our relationships and the ways we work. My academic research focuses on how we interact with and through communication technologies (mobile phones, social and new media, etc...), specifically in work and other organizational contexts. My work has been published in Management Communication Quarterly and the second edition of Case Studies in Organizational Communication, as well as presented at myriad conferences including meetings of the National Communication Association, International Communciation Association, Association of Internet Researchers and others. I have been teaching university communication courses for six years.
