Postdoctoral Researcher in Software Engineering at Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Antwerp Area, Belgium
I am a post-doctoral researcher at the System and Software Engineering Lab (SSEL) since january 1st, 2007. SSEL is part of both the Computer Science Department of the Faculty of Sciences and the Informatics Department of the Faculty of Applied Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium.
My research career started as a teaching assistant at the Computer Science Department in 1997. At that time my research was in the area of database systems and linguistic tools under supervision of Prof. Dr. Robert Meersman at the Semantics Technology & Applications Research Laboratory.
In 1999 I reoriented my research in the area of programming languages and software engineering when joining the Programming Technology Lab under supervision of Prof. Dr. Theo D'Hondt. During the years 1999 - 2006 I participated in several research projects with industry.
Currently my funding comes from the MoVES IAP Project (2007-2011), which is part of the Interuniversity Attraction Poles programme (Belgian State - Belgian Science Policy Office). The goal of this project is to establish a network between several Belgian and EU universities on the topic of the Modelling, Evolution and Verification of Software.
My research interests cover a wide range of topics in the domain of software and programming language engineering. One of the topics I currently investigate is Concept-Centric Coding (C3) and how it can provide a novel approach for creating malleable and documented software implementations. My research is always backed up by the development of tool-implementations to validate the underlying ideas (e.g. CoBro). More details about my research can be found on my website (http://ssel.vub.ac.be/dderidde)

I was the team leader of the SAKE team (Software Automation and Knowledge Engineering) during the Advanced Media project. This was a multidisciplinary research project on innovative media technologies in collaboration with Belgian Television (VRT) and the Interdisciplinary Institute for Broadband Technology (IBBT). The focus of the SAKE team was on generative programming techniques for the development of Interactive Media applications. More information: http://www.xmt.be
