David Stern's Summary
I'm passionate about helping SMBs grow, from start-ups to 100-employee firms, because they're crazy and fun, sometimes heartbreaking, collaborative cauldrons, and the land of opportunity for motivated individuals, from the founder to the most recently hired employee. And I'm proud of the economic and cultural contribution small businesses make -- locally and nationally.
And the businesses I've been fortunate to have worked with: they care. Deeply. About doing a great job for their clients, about running a tight ship, about treating their employees and vendors as partners.
My role in all this since 1997, at different times entrepreneur, consultant and employee, is to ride the excitement of a small business yet guide owners and employees with a disciplined approach to business planning, financial analysis, and back-end operational systems. To keep stakeholders aligned in the pursuit of ever-better financial performance.
Sometimes my role is behind-the-scenes one-on-one with the founder, sometimes it's out in front leading internal functional teams, and other times it's educating employees about small business finance, how their day-to-day actions contribute to the financial success of the company. As someone recently asked of me, "Show me the big picture and the daily habits I need to make it happen."
Specialties: profit and cash flow optimization, cost control, financial planning and modeling, budgets, risk management, debt financing needs analysis and funding applications, deal point development, QuickBooks, and Excel. And I'm currently knee deep in a NetSuite implementation.
David Stern's Experience
CFO & COO

Greenberg is a strategic consultancy integrating research, design, and patterns thinking to help businesses transform and grow. These include Chipotle, CNBC, Dell, Intel, Microsoft, Nike, Starbucks, Sony, and US Bank.
At various times since the late 1990's, I've helped the company grow its capacity to serve clients: adding offerings (from pure Qual to a mix of Qual, humanQuant, design, and video), regional presence (Singapore office), and internal client service teams to handle larger, more complex, and higher impact client initiatives. As the company's CFO and COO in charge of finance, information technology (IT), human resources (HR), and operations, I focus on the back-end infrastructure that supports our strategists, enabling them to better serve clients.
