E-Learning Consultant and Contractor
London, United Kingdom
I have worked in the art and design sector of UK higher education for more than 30 years. I first used the internet in teaching in 1993. Since then I have become increasingly interested in the technologies and practices of elearning.
Currently I am working towards the definition of a Personal Learning Environment (PLE) that we plan to prototype at ThisIdiom for a course in Visual Thinking. A PLE makes use of Web 2.0 services and applications and represents an exciting challenge to educators wishing to integrate the learner's world with that of the learner provider.
I specialise in the design of elearning experiences. This includes course design as well as software design for specific learning and teaching purposes.

September 2000 — December 2006 (6 years 4 months)
At the University of the Arts London I worked for the IT Research and Development Unit (ITRDU). The ITRDU was involved in all aspects of elearning within the University
From 2000 I was responsible for the implementation of the University VLE (Blackboard), encouraging staff to use the VLE and delivering appropriate staff training.
In 2003 I managed the introduction of the University's first online degree and postgraduate courses; designing the courses, taking them through University validation , training staff in online course delivery and providing initial support teaching.
I have an extensive research portfolio in the areas of elearning, art and design. For example, during 2004 I received substantial funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
I have delivered and published many elearning conference papers. I set up the Designs on Elearning Conference, chairing the first conference in September 2005. I have chaired and organised similar conferences and events.
