Communications executive and consultant with deep experience in traditional media, media relations, social media
Greater Los Angeles Area
David Bloom has more than two decades of experience in entertainment, technology, business and politics as a studio executive, business school administrator, communications consultant and journalist.
He currently is principal at Words & Deeds, a Los Angeles-based communications consultancy for media relations and social media for clients in entertainment, technology and politics.
Previously, he was chief communications officer and associate dean for the USC Marshall School of Business, where he led the school in significant expansion of its relationships with traditional broadcast and print outlets; launched branded YouTube and iTunes channels with dozens of video shorts; created a series of targeted e-newsletters; and recruited student bloggers to write of their experiences with the school.
He was vice president, corporate communications for famed film studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, where he handled media and investor inquiries worldwide regarding the studio’s $4.9 billion acquisition, and had an integral role in worldwide anti-piracy efforts by the studio and the Motion Picture Association of America. He also oversaw, on behalf of MGM, media efforts by Movielink, the online movie-download service owned by MGM and four other studios.
He previously worked as a prominent journalist, most recently with Hollywood trade publication Variety and tech investment magazine Red Herring. For 15 years before that, he was a staff writer with metropolitan daily papers in California, Texas and Tennessee, winning several awards for investigative projects while writing about politics, policy and government.
I integrate traditional media relations with social media tools, techniques and platforms to help companies tell their stories to the world in the most powerful fashion possible.
I combine that with strong big-picture strategy, expert writing skill and wide-ranging relationships in technology, media, entertainment, politics and the arts.

I advise companies on how to best integrate new social media tools with more traditional media relations practices, to tell their stories to many audiences, and to take part in the two-way conversations now happening all over the Net. I blend deep background as an award-winning former journalist, communications executive for major institutions and hands-on expertise in social media. My clients include organizations in technology, entertainment, higher education and online companies. I am seeking a permanent position or partnership and project opportunities.
