Managing Director, Qualityworld ApS
Copenhagen Area, Denmark
As an Engineer, David Larsson first worked as a software developer at Prolog Development Center, designing intelligent decision support systems for the airline industry.
From there he went to Phase One as a software engineer, designing internal tools and Photoshop filters, for image processing in high-resolution digital imaging.
Once within Phase One he got promoted to Business Developer in Industry and Medical, working on different solutions applying digital imaging in the medical and industrial fields.
After this, it was time for some change, and David decided to join Valtech (previously known as Heimburgers 'Ahead') as an Internet Consultant, specializing in Search Engine Positioning and Content Management Systems, working on large scale internet project for high-end clients such as Novo Nordisk, NNE, Lundbeck, DSB, Copenhagen and Oslo Stock Exchange, and others.
Parallel with his professional career, David initiated several small-scale startups, most related to Computers and the Internet, before deciding on starting his own company importing fine aged spirits from around the world.
Thus in 2000 he started the company Qualityworld, together with a couple of friends, and in 2003 he left Valtech to go full time for Qualityworld, taking it to the next level as Denmark's foremost importer of high-end drinks, with more than a 1000 different whiskies, rum, cognac, grappa, armagnac, calvados, tequilas and much much more.
This has also led to the company WhiskyOwner ApS - where he sells shares in casks of whisky, rom, cognac and calvados, as well as Talk-and-Taste, where he and the others employees at Qualityworld does tastings and lectures about all areas of spirit production and consumption.
Apart from my technical background as a software engineer, specializing in Neural Networks and Industrial Image Processing (programming in Prolog, C, C++ etc) and working with CMS (mainly InterWoven CMS) and Search Engine Positioning, the past several years has been mainly about all areas relevant to creating a successful startup - building a company from scratch, including all aspects of infrastructure, hiring, negotiating, financing, website, logistics, import and export, sales and marketing.

The pasion for whisky started in 1988 with my first bottle of Single Malt.
During my time at DTU I started traveling to Scotland, collecting whiskies, performing lectures and tasting.
In 2000 I started the Company in my spare time together with a couple of friends, and the first couple of years were spent strugling with the rules concerning import, liquor tax etc.
It wasn't until 2003 that I decided to leave the IT-Industry all together and go full time with Qualityworld, after having bought one of my competitors (Uisge!) and thus having the widest selection of independent bottlers under exclusive import.
In 2006 the company moved from the basement in my house to its own address in Herlev - first to 300m2, but after only 3 months we needed to increase the venue to 600m2, giving room to warehouse, offices and showroom where we also have tastings and lectures.
During 2007 the company has continued to grow, and we are now 5 full time employees, 3 part time and 4 partners ...
