Over the past 32 years I’ve built three successful companies and provided seed funding to a dozen startups including three non-profits. I’m increasingly drawn to the emerging ‘green economy’ (I blog at: http://www.greenr.com)
My entrepreneurial career started around age 10 with a sizable backyard vegetable garden, although I waited till I was nearly 16 to start fulltime work - a family retail business that equipped local backpackers and international trekkers for their adventures.
Math was my favorite school subject (first kid in my grade with a pocket calculator) but it was almost a decade before I tapped that interest via a 128k Mac, so much so I founded a distribution business and wound up representing Adobe, Aldus, Radius, Supermac and others innovators in the desktop publishing and multimedia markets.
I sold out to partner in '92 to start an electronic software distribution business, but after finding limited VC interest in Australia I moved to San Francisco in '94 and founded an internet company which ultimately followed my wife's interest in astrology. We sold Astrology.net to iVillage in '99 and continued running the business through until Feb '03.
In 2004 my wife (and business partner) Kelli Fox suffered a near fatal allergic reaction and spent more than a year recovering - not quite what we had in mind when we "retired" a year earlier "to spend more time with family".
Politics caught my attention later in '04 and together with fellow entrepreneur Sunil Paul and a small team we launched icanvas.org to develop a communication tool to help better inform voters on the issues.
After her near-death experience, Kelli decided her life's work in astrology was not yet done and so The Astrologer, Inc. was born as a second-generation online astrology business in '05. Later that year I provided the seed funding for the Biomimicry Institute, an organization furthering the pioneering work of Time Magazine Environmental Hero, Janine Benyus.
My strongest skill is as a synthesist - connecting people, connecting the dots, thinking beyond conventional wisdom, deep research, warm outlook on life.

Biomimicry is the new science of innovation, inspired by nature. Its all about facilitating the transfer of ideas, designs, and strategies from biology to sustainable human systems design. Biomimicry principles are helping designers and manufacturers move beyond simply doing "less bad", to adaptive, restorative and regenerative design that is guided by billions of years of Mother Nature's R&D work! The Biomimicry Institute was founded by Janine Benyus, a Time Magazine 'Environmental Hero of 2007'. http://www.biomimicryinstitute.org
