David DuPre’s Summary

I am a Performance Engineer with experience in application development, IT systems operations, IT support, disaster recovery planning, configuration management, and service desk operations.

As a Performance Engineering Consultant I have experience leading project teams, executing projects, and teaching our customers in a classroom setting. Many engagements require one-on-one training either on site or remotely using web enabled meetings.

More than 9 years experience helping customers’ answer questions like these:
Will these new servers improve performance of our applications?
How long will these servers continue to meet the SLA of our growing business?
What part of the application contributes the most to end-user response time?
Where are the bottlenecks in my distributed application?
Will relocating the datacenter improve our Website performance?

To answer these kinds of questions I used discrete event simulations tools from HyPerformix. However, tools are not enough. The methodology or process of building a model of an application is critical, and I helped develop, use, and teach it to many of our customers.

This methodology includes an application design review, building a data collection plan tailored to the environment, collecting the data, analyzing the results, and finally building a simulation model.

Some of the companies I have worked with are in these industries:
3 wireless telephone companies, 6 commercial banks, 5 insurance companies, one foreign government, retail companies, manufacturers, and 2 consulting companies.

David DuPre’s Specialties:

Minimizing risk with performance engineering, cutting IT costs with simulation modeling, and improving application design with performance budgeting.

Services include: formal training, one on one knowledge transfer, and executing capacity planning / performance engineering modeling projects.

    - Experienced with application data collection in the test phase using network trace capture tools, performance measurement tools, and load testing tools.

    - Built Hyperformix discrete event simulation models to predict capacity limits and plan just-in-time upgrades with data collected.

    - Past modeling projects have included large scale multi-tier distributed systems with front-end components like Apache, WebSphere, WebLogic, custom J2EE applications, and with backend systems like Siebel, DB2, and Oracle. Middleware systems included JBOSS, MQ Series, CrossWorlds, SeeBeyond, TIBCO, Sybase, Tuxedo, and CICS. Host operating systems included Wintel, UNIX, MVS, x/OS. Workloads for these models included users from both internet and intranet while the client software included Web, Citrix, application driven, and thick-clients.

    - Developed and supported Data Adapters using XML for pulling performance metrics from Prognosis and Nimbus into HyPerformix Data Manager. Extensive use of Crystal Reports 2008 and Xcelcius 2008 with MS SQL Server and Oracle 10g.

    - Provided “level 3” support for escalated and critical incidents from the service desk which received calls from local and remote users.
    - Designed and managed the development of a password synchronization tool. This assured that all users IDs and passwords on individual servers were synchronized with the mainframe security system over the network.
    - Authored and maintained the Business Continuation Server Disaster Recovery plan. Servers were to be recovered with the mainframe in Philadelphia PA using multiple T1 connections allowing the 300 Chattanooga TN based LAN users pre-disaster response times for business continuation. This plan was tested successfully in September 1994 and 1995.
    - Designed and installed the configuration management database focused on inventory tracking within DB2 (server). Workstations were queried at logon for hardware and software configurations. Data was periodically transported to DB2 (mainframe) for use with the service desk applications
