David Compton’s Summary

David is an experienced and effective program director and clinician with an ongoing interest in opportunities to lead and materially contribute in a variety of organizations.

David primarily works in academic medicine at Wingate University, a private university in the piedmont of North Carolina. His role, through teaching both Clinical Medicine and Pharmacology, is to have a guiding hand in educating the next generation of primary care providers for the United States, Physician Assistants.

The physician assistant program at Wingate is comprised of a 27 month block of time where a carefully selected group of individuals with undergraduate degrees and extensive science prerequisites receive intensive didactic and clinical instruction in medicine. Upon completion of a large reserarch project and successful completion of the program, students graduate with a Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree and are qualified to sit for the Physician Assistant National Certification Examination.

After passing their certification examination, Wingate's graduates are positioned to become leaders in the health care community, continuously striving for excellence in their professional endeavors.

David also demonstrates his commitment to higher education through participation in instruction for students in the Master of Public Health program at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. He has a second academic appointment as Clinical Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Community Health at that institution.

In addition to his academic activities, David practices clinical medicine with Concentra Urgent Care at many of their medical centers in the Southeast and actively serves as a healthcare utilization and disability reviewer for several organizations, assessing the appropriateness of disability determinations, planned procedures, rehabilitation, and the overall quality of care provided.
