Database Administrator at The Salvation Army
Indianapolis, Indiana Area
I have five years experience designing database applications, following normalization procedures. I've re-engineered systems for National City bank to simplify reporting and data entry. I have also successfully virtualized a legacy application and retired the physical server, lowering the maintenance burden and increasing performance.
I have deployed an intranet application that utilizes Django and PostgreSQL on the server side and ExtJS on the client side. The design allows for form details to be stored in the database and built dynamically in the client on demand.
I have deployed a backup system for the entire server infrastructure at the Salvation Army Harbor Light Center. This system utilizes Bacula to centralize the data collection from multiple operating systems (such as OpenSolaris, Linux, FreeBSD and Windows Server 2003). PostgreSQL's Point In Time Recovery capability is utilized to maintain a warm standby of the database which can be activated if the master database goes down for any reason.

·Write Interface to SOAP Web Services
Utilized suds, a Python SOAP library to adapt Django's ORM to save and retrieve from a SOAP server, as well as provide data validation
·Design Flexible Questionnaire Application
Designed questionnaire definition to be completely data-driven
Utilized a normalized database structure to allow for easy customization and retention of past formats
Created AJAX interface using the ExtJS Javascript library
Included ability to automate the creation of materialized views to improve OLAP performance
·Rewrite Data Processing Application
Utilized Django, a Python web framework
Simplified and corrected application logic
Wrote data extraction process to pull data from a legacy database, utilizing JDBC and XML-RPC
·Design Backup Process
Utilized Bacula, a cross-platform network backup solution
Took advantage of PostgreSQL's Point-in-Time Recovery feature to archive saved state, enabling restoration to any point in time since the start of the cluster
Backed up 4 servers, including Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Linux and OpenSolaris
Utilized technology available to the operating system to allow for a consistent backup (ZFS snapshots on OpenSolaris, Volume Shadow Copy on Windows, and LVM2 snapshots on Linux)
Backed up approximately 150GB of data on set schedule
