For over twenty years now -- from waxing type to Wacom tablets, from stat cameras to styling with CSS -- it's been my pleasure to provide clarity, restraint, and surprise in design and illustration.
3rd Eye Design functions as a one-man studio providing uncompromising quality and originality to clients -- local, national, and international. I enjoy the challenges of creating elegant layout solutions, intuitive web destinations, and timeless logo designs, in addition to original editorial illustration.

My continuing freelance projects have included magazine illustrations (both editorial and technical), logo design, package design, T-shirt art, book cover illustrations, billboard design, technical brochure illustrations, web page creation and commissioned multimedia paintings for private collectors. I work for local, national, and international clients - all receive the same attention to detail and friendly, professional service.

William Hezmalhalch Architects is the highly-regarded and award-winning firm responsible for the design of Ladera Ranch as well as many other residential and retail developments. As Senior Graphic Designer, I worked directly with architects and land planners to communicate highly technical information to a wide audience – home buyers to builders to city governments. I was also responsible for training junior designers in layout and applications and researched the art department’s proposed transition from Windows to the Apple platform. My duties as Project Manager encompassed working with multiple team members and vendors of varying ability to ensure project quality and completion on deadline.

Phoenix Marketing provides full-service marketing solutions to the financial, travel, and food industries. My responsibilities as Senior Art Director included project management, client contact, and supervision of junior designers. My time at Phoenix became short-lived when the client I was hired to service (NYC-based Equitable Distributors) pulled out of a commitment to bring more work to the agency in Fall, 2001.
(Privately Held; 51-200 employees; Publishing industry)
July 1999 — June 2001 (2 years)
Newport Communications is the leading publisher for the trucking industry. My responsibilities included creation of all original art, selection of submitted photos for publication, logo design, and quality control on all documents prior to film output. I restructured the company’s network file-organization system and assisted in the overall design refinement of RoadStar magazine. Soon after, the company’s flagship publication of seventy-five years, Heavy Duty Trucking, was completely redesigned as a team effort based largely on my original concepts. I also directed photo shoots and traveled nationally to meet and assess potential vendors for prepress, print, and web services.

February 1998 — December 1998 (11 months)
The Communications Group provides creative video, print, and new media solutions for a variety of high-tech corporate clients, primarily Toshiba. My responsibilities included training all employees (Mac and Windows) in all aspects of basic- to advanced functions in various applications, ensuring every project’s visual quality, creating original content for all projects ranging from character animation to multimedia presentations to video animation, creating and implementing job tracking and digital media-organization systems, working with outside vendors, client meetings, and trade show production.
(Privately Held; 1-10 employees; Marketing and Advertising industry)
March 1995 — September 1997 (2 years 7 months)
With GRAFX Group, I used the skills developed over ten years of print experience and applied solid design sense to the emerging aspects of electronic media: web page design, animated product demonstrations, and interface design. I worked in a cross-platform environment and coordinated tasks between clients, animators, programmers, job tracking, and management. I was also responsible for Macintosh system maintenance. Clients included ARCO, Philips, Indeo, Autodesk, and Toshiba.

February 1992 — August 1995 (3 years 7 months)
Here, I supervised a staff of three junior designers in a fast-paced production-oriented environment. A typical day was spent dividing my attention between training junior designers, creating layouts and custom graphics, proofing all jobs for proper color setup, fold and trim, checking for grammar or spelling problems, and consulting with various in-house departments and outside vendors to ensure the quality of each job.
