Dan Wallace's Experience
Strategist & Creative Director
Idea Food, Inc.
Privately Held; 1-10 employees; Marketing and Advertising industry
June 1986 – Present (27 years) Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul Area
Idea Food began as "Dan Wallace, Copywriter." I wrote everything from direct response TV ads to positioning statements to fortune cookie messages. During these years I worked on hundreds of brands in collaboration with many talented designers, art directors, illustrators, photographers and videographers.
Messerli & Kramer asked me to represent them as thier advertising agency, and "Dan Wallace, Copywriter" became "Dan Wallace, et al." Our clients also included The Bureau and Palomino Euro Bistro. We also worked on marketing strategies for many dot.com and technology firms.
After the tech crash of 2000 I re-launced as Idea Food to provide food for though and creative services to management consultancies, mid-sized B2B companies and design firms. Through consulting work with The Prouty Project, PDI Ninth House and Experience Engineering I saw how "branding" is primarily a result of the purpose of an enterprise and how they operate.
In 2010 I created Good Signs: tools people use to learn, create and grow. Currently this product is in closed beta. We have made seven sales to Fortune 500 companies.
Founder
Good Signs
Privately Held; 1-10 employees; Education Management industry
September 2010 – Present (2 years 9 months) Minnneapolis
The purpose of Good Signs is to make products people use to learn, create and grow. We are currently in closed beta and have made sales to seven Fortune 500 companies. Our central insight is that behavior changes when experiences include powerful powerful symbols that evoke personal stories.
VP Programming
American Marketing Association
Nonprofit; 51-200 employees; Marketing and Advertising industry
2000 – 2001 (1 year)
Over seven years with the AMA I heard more than 100 speakers and met many new colleagues. I still try to attend two learning events every week.
Account Management
Fallon
Public Company; 201-500 employees; Marketing and Advertising industry
1984 – 1986 (2 years)
Worked on The Wall Street Journal, Coleman, MedCenters and Murray's Steakhouse. Fallon had just won Advertising Age Agency Of The Year, and I sat across the hall from the most recognized writers and art directors in the industry. It was a heady time. Working there inspired me to switch from account management to copywriting.
