Research in policy and regulation issues where science, technology and trade are involved. Of particular interest right now: risk governance of nanomaterials.
Researching the nature of the relationship between humanity and technology is the one overarching project under which my consulting praxis is based.
I look at most of the systems and environments that I encounter and study through the lens of complex adaptive systems.
Strategy, negotiation and application of dynamic complex adaptive systems. Policy analysis and formulation. Trade law and science.

innovation.tank is an initiative of Seymar GmbH, Zurich that has become a federally supported program aiming at both reintegrating highly qualified unemployed in the work force and at bringing in innovation to small and medium sized enterprises. Although its primary goal is not to spin-off companies, a few sucessful spin-offs have emerged from this initiative.

"tensoriana" It is all about business as an art form and giving back sustainability the meaning it wants to have. The "Creative Director" is just a title that means that I do everything that needs to be done. At tensoriana you may pick your title, it comes with the territory of assuming full responsability for what you are doing, but the bottom line is what you do for the sustainability of the community in which you act. So, what are you doing?

I served a two year term as a member of the School Board at the Schwabgut. This school is located in what is considered a disadvantaged area in Berne, Switzerland.
In this function the board acted both as an advisory and executive organ working together with the school's principals deciding internal matters ranging from personnel to disciplinary action for both students and teaching staff.

Sabine and I never quite got this one off the ground. I had a couple of good clients, and she had a few herself, but somehow this just did not grow the way that I would have liked it. We abandoned the joint venture when I was asked to join JMW.

More dynamics of desorption in the femtosecond regime. Worked in Wilson Ho's laboratory, and did some serious vicious programming with David Cohen.
Wilson Ho is now at UC Irvine, and I have lost touch with David Cohen, last that I heard he had been at JPL, Pasadena.
On occasions played mother to Wilson's graduate students.

Set up a new research laboratory dedicated to the study of the desorption dynamics from semiconductor surfaces upon picosecond or femtosecond laser excitation.
Did build up the whole laboratory together with colleague Stefan Kaesdorf who had a separate experimental set up, but shared lasers and other joint facilities. We started by buying screwdrivers, water distributors and the whole of what is necessary to run both the laser optics and the UHV equipment. My share of the annual budget to be managed was over DM 1 Mio.
