My professional experience in data systems began at 14 for Apple Bank in New York City, NY.
On a summer visit, I was handed a mound of appraisals and asked to figure out how to get the stuff on the paper into the machine. Not the ideal pass-time for a metro-starved kid, but inspiring enough to set me moving. A few hours later, I'd already boiled out the kinks and delivered an improved process with a few recycled jokes. I got to see where business needed data, and how it all fit together.
Since then, I've gravitated toward IT despite formal education to the contrary. Throughout college I held databases and input systems together for the State of Florida Department of Revenue as an analyst to a top legal services provider. After University, I held a position with a environmental contractor providing projection logitics support and an operations directorship. It was my responsibility to foresee landfall of Hurricanes and other natural disasters, provision and mobilize equipment and crews, and ensure administrative communication to FEMA and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
When the storms passed, and the work was complete, my next move was to engineer systems and calculations for municipal bodies to maximize their accountability of affected property with GPS/GIS data to ensure the financial recovery by reimbursement from FEMA through Beck Disaster Recovery and AshBritt. My teams contribution to these efforts remains a standard for dynamic tangible alternatives to 'Time and Materials' contract line items.
In 2006, at 29, I joined the family at CableOrganizer.com in Fort Lauderdale. Under the grooming of Paul and Valerie Holstein, and the forward-thinking culture of their collective, my passion for internet technologies was given an opportunity to take root in web user-data analysis.
