Daniel Roberts is a Director at RAAS Consulting, UK/France/US. He was Grant Thornton’s representative to the XBRL consortium (eXtensible Business Reporting Language), is the final Chairman of the XBRL-US Steering Committee (2005-2007) and was the XBRL-US Representative to the XBRL International Steering Committee. He has experience in Risk Management, Internal Audit Management and Information Systems Audit, Corporate Governance and consulting in Organizational Efficiency and Effectiveness. Before the assurance industry, he had 10 years experience in most aspects of the Information Technology industry.
Daniel Roberts is deeply involved with CR (Corporate Responsibility) and Sustainability issues, and writes extensively on the topic.. He has been active in the CR / Sustainability arena since 2004.
Dan immigrated to New Zealand in 1986, living and working in New Zealand, Malaysia and Thailand until February 2001, when he returned to the United States, joining Grant Thornton in Chicago, USA, followed by his latest move to Europe in early 2008.
He began his career (many years ago) with four years in the United States Air Force, assigned to the Air Force Data Services Center at the Pentagon in Washington DC. Awarded the US Air Force Commendation Medal (AFCM) and the United States Meritorious Service Medal (MSM).
He comes from a USAID family, was born in Libya, and has lived in Tanzania, Tunisia, Thailand, Syria, Greece, New Zealand, the United States, and most recently France and the UK. In 1985, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Behavior and Social Science, University of Maryland.

GT’s representative to the XBRL consortium (eXtensible Business Reporting Language), and Immediate Past Chair of the XBRL-US Steering Committee (2005-2007). Represented the US on the XBRL International SC. Instrumental in guiding XBRL US through the process of becoming an independent not for profit corporation: XBRL US, Inc. and negotiation of the contract with the US SEC for the creation of the US GAAP taxonomies.
During my tenur as Chair of XBRL US Steering Committee, we significantly grew membership after a period of falling membership.
CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and Sustainability. Authoring a book on CSR/Sustainability and business reporting, focused on its importance from the business perspective. CSR/Sustainability can and should be implemented to improve business performance and to demonstrate the true value of a company to investors.
Developed and introduced the ASAP methodology and tool. ASAP provides clients with a focus for business discussion and improvement. ASAP is a 360 degree look at the client from their own eyes, and identifies areas of management disconnect.
