Daniel Foa is the co-founder of an online microfinance platform, www.51give.com which is dedicated to lending money to Chinese rural and urban families and social entrepreneurs to power their lives with renewable energies. This financial process is referred to as “Sustainable Microfinance”. 51Give difference lies in the fact that the loans not only alleviate poverty, but also improves the environment, reduces carbon and enhances access to clean energies in China. Daniel also co-founded a not-for-profit foundation www.51sim.org which seeks to address social innovation and ecological issues in an innovative and sustainable way.
Before setting up 51Give and 51Sim, Daniel has been responsible for the Business Operations of departments of up to 850 persons, consulted in financial services, launched start-ups, led international technology transfers as well as his previous company’s Internet strategy – IBM – to the Shanghai Stock Exchange. Daniel is fluent in Mandarin.
Daniel has spoken at a number of international events on China's Internet Finance, Microfinance and Social entrepreneurship since 2000. In December 2008, he was invited to the Clinton Global Initiative Asia Meeting in Hong Kong as a result of two of 51Sim’s projects being successfully chosen as a preferred commitment by the CGI. A United Nations Foundation TV crew recently followed Daniel and the 51Give team around China and the feature documentary on 51Give’s green microfinance projects in China will be on show during the New York Climate week www.climateweeknyc.org (Sept.20th to 26th) as well as throughout the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen this December.
