President, Producer, Creative & Technical Director
Privately Held; 1-10 employees; Design industry
January 2006 – March 2012 (6 years 3 months) Brooklyn
In 2006 after working with Verb! Media I was inspired to open my own studio and Scine was born. As Account Director at Scine I had the chance to cultivate relationships with clients such as Comedy Central and Kaplan, Inc.
My responsibilities extended beyond working directly with clients ensuring that from proposal to final production expectations were met or exceeded to making sure my teams were informed and inspired. I handled staff, vendor, and freelancer management while being directly involved with design and production for our more important Flash projects.
The most rewarding parts of my job included art & technical direction, writing proposals and creative briefs, team management, and working directly with clients to clearly define project goals. I was responsible for bringing together the right teams of people to create solutions that met core brand and business requirements while meeting or exceeding project expectations.
Interactive Constultant & Developer
Public Company; 201-500 employees; Entertainment industry
2006 – 2011 (5 years) New York
One of the most long running and successful projects I have managed and produced with my team at Scine is an online media sharing and approval application that has been essential to all production efforts within Comedy Central for the past five years. Internal departments interface directly with vendors and design studios to produce all marketing and digital collateral for the company with this site. Over the years we have been contracted to upgrade and add new functionality to the core system. The result is a fully branded user friendly experience where producers, project managers, designers, and animators can keep track of every project's history visually while approving and sharing a variety of digital media online.
Scine also built a Flash application that displays Twitter feeds in real time over live broadcast TV so the audience can tweet as they watch the show and see their comments displayed on the lower third of the screen. Tweets are fed into a content management system where traffic monitors can screen for content approval before being animated in Flash and composited over the live broadcast. The web meets TV in a unique and successful way.
Flash Design & Development
Privately Held; 11-50 employees; Broadcast Media industry
2007 – 2008 (1 year) New York, NY
Designed, animated, and coded the online presence for one of New York's premiere editing studios using Flash and created a custom content management system that delivered copy and media to Flash. The CMS allows the studio to update the web site video and content as new projects are produced.
I directed the development of the CMS system at Scine, opting to have it built using the Symfony framework to save time and cost for the client.
Visitors to the site can see updated video content organized by individual editors, news from the company, and login to a custom built media & file review section for clients with projects in development with wild(child).
Head of Interactive
January 2002 – March 2006 (4 years 3 months) New York, NY
Verb! was one of the the most recognized boutique motion graphics studios in New York City and produced innovative award winning work for clients like HBO, Hewlett Packard, RSCG, TBWA\Chiat\Day. As they expanded more clients requested interactive projects outside of Verb!'s core abilities and they brought me on full time to head up their growing Interactive department.
I worked on a wide range of projects from interactive & animated data driven Flash web sites to building a custom After Effects rendering application in Apple's Xcode studio that allowed HBO to easily render customized components of the channel package Verb! designed without ever opening After Effects!
My biggest accomplishment at Verb! was creating the company's intranet / extranet: a browser based client and project management system which became instrumental in overhauling internal workflow. The internal and external web sites minimized day to day production tasks that formerly consumed time and resources, increased efficiency and created a central digital archive of their work.
I left Verb! in 2006 to start my company Scine. Our first job was designing and building an elegant interactive Flash web site that defined Verb's online presence. Connected to the intranet and extranet, the new site seamlessly provided sales with features giving them the ability to create secure and personalized online portfolios of selected Verb! projects for pitches, RFP's, and lead generation.
Since Verb! closed their doors I've keep the site I designed here for posterity: http://verb.scine.com/
Freelance Flash Developer
Privately Held; 11-50 employees; Internet industry
January 2005 – February 2005 (2 months) New York, NY
After several failed Flash freelancers Abstract Edge was beginning to get frustrated when I was introduced to Caryn Rose who brought me on board. Within several weeks I had everything they needed running, fixed existing code that had serious problems and integrated Flash with a Plone CMS database.
Senior Interactive Designer, Product Development
Privately Held; 11-50 employees; Online Media industry
January 2004 – January 2005 (1 year 1 month) New York, NY
Created games and rich media advertising for one of the web's first true social media sites that everyone forgot once Facebook opened it's doors to the public.
Participated in product development sessions with senior staff to explore new directions to maintain revenue and relevancy which was doomed to fail as other newer more 'agile' social media sites were springing up and garnering attention. But since the late 90's Bolt was the only real social network for kids & tweens.
I had the opportunity to make great lasting friendships out of my colleagues at Bolt and they are to this day some of the most talented people I've worked with.
Senior Designer, Creative Technologist
1998 – 2001 (3 years) New York, NY
Where I first cut my teeth in the real world and forged my path into creative technologist when technology was, shall we say, limited?
Worked for and with the best people at Blue right out of college, learned a lot and made contacts there that I still have today. What can I say... The dot com bubble, been there, done that :)
