Photo Industry Analyst
San Francisco Bay Area
Since 1998, I have been an analyst and researcher in the photography business, focusing on economic, legal, social and technological factors that affect stock photography. Key writings can be found at http://www.danheller.com/blogs
I also assist both startup and established companies who are looking to either enter or expand their presence in the photo industry via new technologies or business models.
Prior to my work in the photo industry, I was involved with internet technologies and related fields. I am probably most well known for my company Z-Code Software, which I founded in 1990, which created the first commercially available email system based on internet protocols. I was also involved in the design and development of user interface toolkits and other aspects in distributed window systems.
I've published 6 books -- two on technology, and four on aspects of the photography business.
