Community Coordinator at See3D
Shrewsbury, United Kingdom
I've been working with online communities in various capacities for around 8 years as a developer, admin/mod or community manager, and am confident in my ability to take on any mid level community positions. My experience and preference has always been with MMO worlds, particularly those with PvP content, but this is not set it stone and I am always interested in trying new ventures.
Here's a quick rundown of my experience:
* MMO Community Management through beta and post launch.
* Professional 3D Artist Community Management from concept to beta, including writing design documents and helping implement ideas.
* Fansite administration/moderation for over 8 years across numerous games.
* Writing for gaming websites, including conducting interviews and contacting major developers.
* Co-hosting a popular internet gaming radio show for a number of episodes.
* Managing/coordinating beta testing groups for two titles.
* QA testing experience, including knowledge of bug submit software and the processes involved.
* Graphic design, including news letter templates, websites and a launcher window.
* Basic web development skills.
Community support, writing website content, webdesign, customer service, feedback gathering.
Providing and maintaining the best environment for healthy relations between developers and communities.

I am currently employed at See3D to kick off their plan to build an online community hub for freelance 3D artists. My responsibilities include developing a business strategy, planning website content and structure, and eventually bringing artists in to take part.
It's also been known for me to utilize my experience with 3D design, graphic design and post processing software to assist with projects where I can.

My role as Assistant Community Manager at Auran involved assisting the growth and retention of the community of players surrounding the MMO title 'Fury'.
I worked particularly closely with the design team, in terms of providing feedback and discussing developments in the game. I made a point of being present at all major design meetings, and had strong bonds with that department. I was also loosely involved in the marketing side, going over press releases and other material before it went live.
I also became actively involved in website development throughout the project. I worked on the structure and content of the main website, provided specifications and designs for a superior replacement, and also put together the graphics and layout for a tournament sub-site and the game launcher window.

During my time as External Testing Assistant at Auran my role involved coordinating test sessions with the main alpha//beta group, tracking bugs and issues that they found, and forwarding their early feedback onto the design team.
In addition to dealing with the beta community as a whole I also set up and managed a 'VIP' program of core testers to give us focused feedback and testing on aspects of the game.

GuildWarsGuru is a community website and forum for the popular MMORPG title 'Guild Wars', under the MMO Guru umbrella.
I was taken on to initiate and maintain the GuildWarsGuru PvP community section. This included setting up the forum structure, bringing on board moderators to help run it, and generating content in the form of articles and guides.
It is now the one of the most active and well respected sources of PvP information and discussion for Guild Wars.

SAS: Into the Lions Den was a voluntary project that dominated five years of my life. The game was built on the Unreal Tournament 2003/4 engine, and made multiple releases over the course of the last three years.
I started the project originally as a 2D artist, but through the five years spread myself to many other areas. Artist and community relations sum up what I did best. I wrote website and news release content, organized third party ladders and tournaments, and worked with our community of players to provide feedback to the rest of the team.
The crowning achievement of this project was scoring a 90% review in PCZone magazine, with the 'PCZone Classic' award. A truly proud and satisfying moment for all of us who had poured thousands of man hours into a project for free.
[02/06/08 - SAS is now being used as a training tool by the Canadian Military.]

I will most definitely always be a gamer at heart. I think that above all else is crucial. You should never become so tied up in development that you lose touch with your players. Other things: Reading (mostly fantasy/sci-fi), hiking, movies, online discussion forum, the local pub... :D
