Dr. Dan Balón has been a successful dynamic teacher, scholar, and administrator in higher education, pre-K-12 settings, and the non-profit sector (with MOSAICA: The Center for Nonprofit Development & Pluralism and as a training consultant partner with the Corporation for National and Community Service).
After 20 years as a change agent, college student affairs educator, faculty member, and organizational leader on both the west and east coasts of the United States, Dan is now Director of Diversity & Equity in the Burlington School District, Vermont’s largest and most racially/ethnically diverse public school community.
Dan is a Social Justice Training Institute (SJTI) alumnus and certified to interpret the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®). He is also adjunct faculty at Drexel University’s Graduate School of Education.
As president of Barkada Consulting Network, LLC, Dan has served difference-makers across the country as an engaging leadership and diversity training consultant, facilitator, and speaker. He has supported groups as diverse as pre-K-12 school teachers/parents, management consultants, non-profit/business executives, higher education practitioners, engineering faculty/graduate teaching assistants, civic leaders, and college resident advisors. Dan seeks to create experiences that empower leaders, build inclusive communities, and address social injustice. Recent clients include: United Church of Christ, Univ. of Vermont, Univ. of Maryland, Salisbury Univ., North Carolina State Univ., Latin American Montessori Bilingual School, Shelter Network, and United Methodist Church.
Dan has published articles on social justice education, multicultural organizations; higher education diversity initiatives; and Asian Pacific American leadership development. He earned his Ph.D. in Education Policy & Leadership from the University of Maryland.
