Research Director, Freeform Dynamics Ltd
Bournemouth, United Kingdom
I have more years experience in the IT industry than I sometimes care to remember, working in a variety of technical, management and commercial roles over the course of my career. Through my current vocation as an indepndent industry analyst, I care passionately about helping people cut through all of the hype and misconceptions often created by vested interests and the media. Wherever possible, I try to provide relevant insights into what’s real, what’s valuable, what’s sensible and, of course, what’s not. If I can meet interesting people, make friends and earn enough money to pay the bills along the way, that’s always welcome too.

December 2005 — Present (2 years 6 months)
I am currenly Managing Director of the industry analyst and research firm Freeform Dynamics Ltd (www.freeformdynamics.com), which was founded in late 2005 with my wife and fellow director, Helen Vile. From a standing start, the company succeeded in establishing itself firmly on the research stage within nine months of startup, developing a sound reputation for quality output, and securing engagements with big names in the industry such as IBM, CA, Cisco, Vodafone, Orange and others. Within Freeform, we have a stong culture of openness and partnering, and have formed alliances with a number of other analyst and research firms. We have also developed a joint business with one of the big European media companies, Situation Publishing, the entity behind The Register news and information site. Based on its initial success, Freeform Dynamics is growing organically, and we are always on the lookout for experienced people who are interested in joining the family as associate analysts.

Having been intimately involved over a four year period in the building and driving of Quocirca Ltd, I have now withdrawn from the day-to-day running of the business. I remain a significant investor, however, with Helen (my wife) and I together maintaining a 40% shareholding in the company.

September 2001 — September 2005 (4 years 1 month)
I joined Quocirca as a director and shareholder before the company had got off the ground commercially. Together with the initial founder, Clive Longbottom, we built the business into a strong going concern, laying important foundations that underpin the success of the company even today. In addition to being the original commercial architect of the business, I set up and subsequently managed Quocirca's primary research unit and played an active role as an industry analyst. While Quocrica does not attribute the work of past analysts on its website, many of the articles and some of the reports I authored during my time with the company are available in their original attributed form elsewhere on the Web, and can be found by searching for my name in Google (there is only one "Dale Vile")..
