Marketing Graduate with a penchant for anything Digital
United Kingdom
I am currently in my final year of a BA Marketing degree. I am specialising in the areas of digital marketing and branding.
My interest in digital marketing was sparked during my placement year at online marketing agency Onetomarket. Here I focussed on creating, managing and optimising search engine advertising campaigns, as well as getting heavily involved in the company's own marketing programs. I also led a research team which was exploring the business opportunities of social media.
My interest in the field of online marketing led me initially to start guest posting on Viralblog.com, which is a leading blog in the field of viral marketing, and later to start my own blog at Daanjansonius.com

My placement at Onetomarket consisted of 3 different roles: SEA Consultant, Marketing Assistant and Research Leader.
Within the SEA department I acted as consultant for various mid sized companies, as well as assisted the Senior Consultants with large coorporation's campaigns. Client strategy, campaign optimisation and copywriting were daily tasks on the job.
As marketing assistant I got involved with various internal and external marketing activities. My main responsibility was the corporate blog and included giving internal workshops and building external relationships with bloggers, as well as providing content.
As research leader I led a team that explored social media and its potential as marketing vehicle to Onetomarket and its clients. Our research led to various new services offered by the agency.

Censo was one of the most popular night clubs in Bournemouth. My role was to moderate the MySpace and Facebook pages and keep regular readers up to date of events and special offers, as well as enticing people to visit the club.
The two pages attracted several thousand of 'friends' and enabled Censo to reach many of their loyal fans on a regular and personal level. This approach resulted in a guest list of +/- 100 people on a daily basis.

Without realising it at the time, this is probably the job where I learned most about marketing.
Customer service, a personal approach, knowing and understanding your customer - these are all very important skills which I picked up at Cafe de Schoof.
The owner firmly believed that a personal approach and investing in your regular customers is the key to being successful in any business. The fact that his bar is still there after 25 years whilst all neighbouring bars change hands every two to three years has proven him right and has taught me a valuable lesson in marketing.
