As a certified Visitor Information Councellor I worked at the Visitor Info Centre. People coming into town could stop off and ask questions about the town, the activities and oportunities that the town offered. I had to know everything there was to know about Summerland. One time I was even asked about the composition of the soil around town. In my spare time I researched about the town and was able to answer that under the topsoil the ground was very sandy and mostly made up of clay.
Knowing the intricasies of the entire town wasn't enough though, if someone came in wanting to plan a vacation I could tell them about all surrounding towns in the valley and come fall I had to know about all 54 wineries in the area.
Also in the position I was charged with keeping the building clean, presentable, well stocked. Later into the job I had the responsibility of opening the centre, running it, and closing up at the end of the shift with no one else on shift in the building the entire day.
