Grew up in Dickinson, North Dakota. Graduated from Dickinson High School in 1973.
Worked in the broadcast industry in various positions including radio engineer, news broadcaster, music show host, announcer, radio sales executive, television weatherman, television sales manager, production director, remote location chief, slo-mo operator, audio engineer, camera operator, crew chief and more.
In 1987, he changed careers by becoming owner/operator of a photography business in the Bismarck-Mandan (ND) area when the purchase of "Photo Quick" was made. Over the years the business evolved and changed until today, Mr. Schmidt is an award winning portrait and wedding photographer operating a residential photography business in Bismarck specializing in the latest digital photography techniques.
As well, Craig is a consultant for professional photography studios aiding photography business owners with the skills required to be profitable and creative in today's imaging industry.

He is past president of the Professional Photographers of his home state of North Dakota, past president of the Northwest Professional Photographers Association, and has served on the board of the Northern Lights Professional Photographers Association. Mr. Schmidt also has served his church and his community by serving on the board of directors of the Bismarck Mandan Chamber of Commerce, 2 terms on the Board of Trustees of Grace Lutheran Brethren Church in Bismarck, and he currently serves as president of Immanuel Christian School and Noah's Ark Day Care. Married since 1977 to wife, Mary. They have three grown sons.
