September 1990 — June 1995 (4 years 10 months)
Photography is a craft, an apprenticeship... there is much to learn. I assisted many talented photographers in the Phoenix area and around the country during this time period while I built my own client base, shooting smaller jobs, and then larger jobs as I gained experience.

October 1987 — September 1990 (3 years )
Full time photo assistant for Barney Taxel, a commercial photographer with a 3000 square foot photo studio in Cleveland, OH.
Jan 1987 to Oct 1987
Previous to working with Barney Taxel, I freelance photo assisted for several photographers in the Cleveland, Ohio area, including Martin Reuben, Tom Pastoric, Rick and Tena Cicigoi at CR Studios, Roger Mastroianni, and Dennis Rolliff.
(Non-Profit Organization Management industry)
March 1986 — November 1986 (9 months)
300+ people walked across the United States... leaving from Los Angeles, CA on March 1st 1986, arriving in Washington DC on Nov. 15th 1986.
I shot about 500 rolls of film, as the quote unquote "official photographer" of the Great Peace March. One of my photos was featured on the book cover written by Franklin Folsom detailing the story of the GPM as well as numerous photos inside.
Even though I was still in college at the time (taking off the 2 semesters to participate in the GPM) and having left my job waiting tables at a Pizza Hut in Kent, OH, I still treated this as a professional job, as if I was a photojournalist, and feel that I became a photojournalist.
I made some beautiful images on the March, and as a result I had an interview with Tom Kennedy, Director of Photography at National Geographic in 1987.
It was an amazing once in a lifetime experience.
(Public Company; YUM; Restaurants industry)
January 1983 — February 1986 (3 years 2 months)
Located in Kent, Ohio. This was a fun job, despite the pressures of working in a restaurant, I really enjoyed working at the Hut, I ate pizza a lot and I love pizza.
(Furniture industry)
September 1982 — February 1983 (6 months)
Kent, Ohio. Worked with the owner delivering furniture... this was tough, because I'm not exactly built to lift large couches and things of that size.
(Entertainment industry)
May 1981 — August 1982 (1 year 4 months)
Summer job 1981 & 1982.
Aurora, Ohio. Operating various rides like the Rock-O-Plane, Bumper Cars, and the Sky Glide at Geauga Lake Amusement Park. Lots of fun. Sea World was on the other side of the lake.
(Restaurants industry)
June 1979 — May 1981 (2 years )
Located in Kent, Ohio, this was my first real job, after having a paper route for the Akron Beacon Journal for 3+ years.
I washed dishes for about 6-9 months, then got moved up to Fry Cook and then to the grill and closing the restaurant on a regular basis.
(Public Company; KRI; Newspapers industry)
1976 — 1979 (3 years )
Large paper route, about 100 homes, I delivered the daily paper to several neighborhoods around the area I lived in.
On Sunday we had more than 200 to deliver, so my mom would drive me and my brothers, who also had routes of their own, to deliver the Sunday papers, it was a big job, we would put together sections on Saturday night.
I also had to collect, going door to door with the punch cards, I didn't enjoy that part of the job as much, but it taught me the importance of keeping current with responsibilities, even at a young age.
