I was a member of an EHR Meaningful Use team assessing the computer servers, networks, and data centers at hospitals across the USA for a large hospital corporation. As a DCE (data center engineer) consultant, I was responsible for assessing, designing, managing the construction and upgrading the space, power, and cooling for the hospital’s data centers. I visited the site, met with local personnel and vendors, created RFQs and awarded vendor bids. I also documented the facility assessment and designed a path for the placement of Meaningful Use equipment into each of the hospital's data centers.

I was a member of an Active Directory migration team moving 6 Microsoft 2003 Active Directory trees/networks to one large WAN/LAN connected 2008 AD tree/network. This involved visiting several of the company’s sites around the country. As part of the team, I monitored and verified the migration of several thousand users and their email accounts to the new AD tree and MS Exchange 2010. The team used the Quest migration software.

Privately Held; 1001-5000 employees; Information Technology and Services industry

September 2009September 2010 (1 year 1 month)

Erlanger's IT department was out-sourced to PHNS July 2008; during this period I managed and implemented several projects at the hospital. The projects related to network (wired and wireless), data center facilities, server implementation and maintenance, and overall enterprise IT support. This included the two data centers here in Chattanooga and planning for the server and application moves to the regional PHNS data center in Springfield, MO. I designed and assisted in the implementation of 5 generations of Wi-Fi including 3 generations of Nortel wireless. The Erlanger Wi-Fi networks consist of over 500 access points in 5 different regional locations including detailed site surveys and NMS wlan mgmt. Designed, planned and managed the facilities required for the hospital system-wide upgrade of their regional PBX system installing Nortel VoIP, digital, and analog equipment throughout.

Designed, installed and supported primarily Novell & Microsoft networks for Computer Focus customers. Contracted to Enlarger as team lead for their network development group. We initiated several WAN connections using ATM, DS3, T1, ISDN, & CDS to remote offices. Implemented many new Novell & Microsoft servers as well as refined and updated the current servers throughout the campus. Installed the original Compaq Novell NDS and Compaq Microsoft domain controllers, SNA gateways, SQL data base servers, and several Siemens HIS application servers including Openlink, Novius Data Warehouse, and CareCenter. Also installed and supported Microsoft Cluster services.

Intelligent Systems & Networking

January 1994January 1995 (1 year 1 month)

My primary focus was the design, installation and support of Novell networks primarily using Compaq Proliant and NetFRAME super servers. I installed these networks and servers at ISN customers throughout the region. This included a short contract at TVA and Enlarger. This included various brands of network hubs, switches, routers and gateways. Connectivity to 3270 and 5250 hosts as well as IP and NFS connectivity between Novell and SUN servers.

Integrated Network Services

January 1993January 1994 (1 year 1 month)

I was a project implementer on most of the hospital sites where Novell, Microsoft, Compaq, and/or NetFRAME's, were to be installed across America. When I was not on-site, I managed the support department consisting of server engineers, software analysts and hardware technicians. My primary focus was the design, installation and support of Novell networks primarily using Compaq Proliant and NetFRAME super servers. I installed these networks and servers at healthcare facilities across America. This included various brands of network hubs, switches, routers and gateways. Also connectivity to 3270 and 5250 hosts as well as IP and NFS connectivity between Novell and SUN servers. According to NetFRAME, I installed and implemented the very first Novell Netware v4.01 1000 user NOS on a production NetFRAME 450.

NFS and IP were also configured to connect between UNIX/Novell servers through various routers and bridges. I know and have instructed classes on many of today's software packages including Lotus 1-2-3, Microsoft, Novell, and WordPerfect. I am a Master Certified Novell Netware Engineer (MCNE), a Compaq Accredited Systems Engineer (ASE) and a SUN Microsystems Engineer.
