Colleen Wainwright’s Summary

I help entrepreneurs get clear on their core truth and assist them in finding the best ways possible for putting it out there.

"Ah!" you cry, "I get it! She's a marketing consultant!" Well, yes. And no.

I do help people make sense of the bewildering array of options and opportunities that the modern world of marketing and social media presents us all with, and come up with a clean, actionable plan. (It's amazing what smart, motivated types can actually get done once they have a map and a good light.) But the message comes first, then the plan, man.

I also do a lot of writing (essays, blog articles, columns), some speaking and a great deal of Horsing Around on the Internet. That's right: I'm a NERD.

Colleen Wainwright’s Specialties:

Marketing, performance (the song-and-dance kind, not the ROI kind), public speaking, punditry.

Colleen Wainwright’s Experience

  • the communicatrix

    communicatrix

    (Writing and Editing industry)

    October 2006Present (3 years 2 months)

I help creative solopreneurs figure out what they have to offer the world and how the hell to express it. This involves a mix of consulting, writing and speaking, readily observed/absorbed via the rabbit hole that is my website.

If you're looking for the best way to sum me up, god help you. But I think my friend Chris Brogan put it pretty well when he called me "a professional cleverly hidden in a creative, fun shell." Although sometimes I'm more clever about the hiding-it part than others.

One small note of order: I've officially been "the communicatrix" since 11/04, with the launch of my eponymous (well, eponymous in terms of the handle) blog. And I've been farting around in various communications disciplines since about 1962, when word has it I actually started using words. LinkedIn's system of ordering by date (rules! rules! cursed, lowest-common-denominator-driven rules!) forces me to futz with start date in order to get this info bubbling up on top.

    (Entertainment industry)

    September 2006Present (3 years 3 months)

Now officially retired from acting (although my agent prefers to say I'm on "extended hiatus," which is one of the reasons he's my agent), I'm putting my hard-won knowledge to good use helping the little chickens starting out. If they make only 9/10ths of the mistakes I made, they will be ahead of the game.

you name it, I've shilled it

    (Marketing and Advertising industry)

    September 1998September 2006 (8 years 1 month)

Yes, that's right—I was one of the mythic 5% of Screen Actors Guild members who actually supported themselves with acting. There were a few TV shows and films in there (and a whole lot of unpaid theater work), but in the main, I played the goofy housewife, the funny friend, the whack-job business gal in :30 wind sprints for roughly 8 years.
