Torchbox, a web development company focused on solutions for non-profit organisations contracted me to execute the complex requirements of end clients such as Chartered Society of Physiotherapists and Greenpeace. This included the complex migration of the many thousands of users and items of content for CSP and making substantial improvements to Greenpeace’ onsite donation campaigns work.

Wecomplain4u.com is an online consumer complaints service. I am currently finalizing the deployment of an end-to-end software-based workflow engine to capture the details of its clients’ complaints, to produce automatically and dispatch bespoke first-instance complaint letters, to automate the handling of both in- and outbound mail and to invoice clients and take payment where appropriate. I have been instrumentally involved with this company since its incorporation in 2008.

I held this short-term role at Monterosa a web development company as the technical project manager on the BBC’s “Strictly Come Dancing”, “Strictly Social” interactive web-service. While liaising between the relevant stakeholders and developers I was also directly involved in the development, working on the BBC’s new Forge development platform. The system successfully launched on time and on budget, and handled many thousands of simultaneous users.

The ai Corporation is a leading provider of international payment card fraud detection software. Its clients include many of the world’s largest financial institutions. I was single-handedly responsible for managing the company’s marketing department while at the same time designing and implementing new merchant-level software offerings; for example, I designed and implemented a customized Zimbra-based groupware solution.

I was employed by DatMedia to integrate their core offering, a multi-protocol on-demand video player, with certain emerging ‘Web 2.0’ content streams, including GoogleMaps™ and GoogleDocs™. However, the most significant contribution that I made during my time with this company was the work that I did in integrating their video player with the open-source Moodle framework; I provided two way integration allowing a player to be embedded in Moodle assets, while at the same time allowing Moodle assets to be loaded within the presentation frame of the player for both synchronized live and offline broadcasts. This cutting-edge development allowed the company to expand its business into the educational sector, a move which directly facilitated an increase in the profitability of the company as a whole.

I was instrumental in the conception of this company, having identified an unsaturated niche in the digital display-advertising sector. As CTO, my responsibilities were numerous; inter alia, I drew-up the initial specification for the display hardware and oversaw its manufacture, designed and project-managed the development of the software which was used by the company to broadcast its clients’ digital media from one centralized location, secured £870,000 first-phase investment and negotiated the option of securing an additional £48million at second phase and secured an exclusive international license over the eye-contact-sensing and motion-detecting software which the company planned to use to bolster its USP.

I joined Eclipse Leisure in 2001, when the company was still in its infancy, with a total staff of two employees only. I was instructed by the Managing Director, who had used my services as IT consultant on previous occasions, to produce a development roadmap to guide the company from its initial deployment through to the realization of its longer-term vision. This multi-year plan is still being followed to this day and the company is going from strength-to-strength, currently with a core workforce of over 35 full-time employees.

When I joined the WSL team in 2000, the company was in a difficult position; it had recently entered into exclusive service contracts with several MNCs, including Lexus and Toyota, but was unable to handle efficiently the administrative demands of these contracts, due to an outdated order and proofing workflow system. One of the most significant contributions that I made while working with WSL was the design and implementation of an intranet-integrated online order and proofing system; this system allowed WSL to achieve sign-off with minimal manual intervention, which increased significantly the scalability of the company’s core offering.
