Austin, Texas Area
I am currently the managing editor of The Texas Observer. I supervise the Books and The Culture section and am responsible for the Web site. I am working on a book and film about bigotry and racism in Texas and in the seven ethnically-influenced wars I've covered around the world. I left The Associated Press in 2007, where I was the Chief of Bureau for East Africa. I worked as an investigative reporter as a contractor for AP from August 2007 to 2009.
I also lecture on international reporting and strategic communication in the developing world.
