Adrienne is an unrepentant generalist. A sampling of her interests would include cartooning, calligraphy, graphic design, architecture, ecological design, and trail building. Her education ranges widely in the natural sciences and design disciplines, and she received her B.A. in Environmental Studies from the Evergreen State College in 1985.
After college, she owned and operated Madrona Knives for 15 years as a custom knifemaker, where she discovered that the foundation of all craft is the interaction of form, function, and structure. She believes that the mastery of a craft is the process of wedding theory and practice until there is no conscious division between the two.
After her years as a knifemaker, Adrienne wished to expand her skills to new areas. She held a position as Technical Supervisor at the Lopez Island Library for seven years, during which time she developed a keen interest in computers and web design. Spending a great deal of time working with patrons of all abilities gave her a strong affinity for user-centered design principles.
Adrienne has entered the field of web design at a fortuitous time. Within the last 2-3 years, the practice of web design has grown (in its best moments) to the level of a true craft. She looks forward to developing her mastery in this evolving discipline.

Cloud Islands is an agency aimed at providing a range of solutions to small business, nonprofits, and fellow creatives. We're flexible and multi-talented, so we can offer small firms and individuals the services often available only to large organizations.
We design and produce websites using standards-compliant XHTML, CSS, and DOM Javascript. We create HTML and graphic prototypes for rapid site development. We prefer hand-coding to WYSIWYG production, because we believe that great websites start with solid markup. We work closely with backend developers to ensure that coding and design mesh seamlessly.
We're as comfortable with the sketchpad as we are with the keyboard. We're designers who aren't afraid of technology; we're technologists who aren't afraid of Art. Our partners have backgrounds in graphic and environmental design, fine art, advertising, and metal fabrication. We believe that great design is accomplished thorough the deep integration of theory and practice.
