MANAGEMENT AND SUPPORT TO APPLICATIONS IN HIGH AVAILABILITY CLUSTER USING DISTRIBUTED OBJECTS

Distributed Objects Model, Distributed Systems, Distributed Services, Service-Oriented, High-Availability Services, CORBA, Cluster Servers
Abstract
This work intends to investigate for the complexities and problems involved in the specification and implementation of an object-oriented / service-oriented architecture for the management and support of distributed applications in a platform of servers in cluster configuration, in particular for those that must fulfill high availability requirements / SLAs. Such architecture must present itself as a infrastructure of distributed services and should compose an intermediate layer between the parts of the cluster distributed applications and the cluster resources, composing in this way a middleware layer. The service architecture was based on standard and non-standard CORBA services.

Implementing Proactive Network Management Mechanisms for the São Carlos Physics Institute Network Infrastructure
Keywords:
Computer Networks TCP/IP SNMP RMON TCL TK Scotty
This work intends to investigate and propose a solution to the proactive management of a large and complex network infrastructure environment. The solution should be highly configurable and extensible and shall monitor the network environment statistics and events in order to, based on rules and inference, automatically start corrective and repairing actions on the network in order to avoid or correct potential or occuring problems. SNMP and RMON standard network management framework, GUI, open-source software frameworks having enough extensibility and flexibility, Linux and FreeBSD unix platforms, X-Windows System, Tcl (Tool Command Language), Tk (Tcl GUI toolkit), Scotty (Tcl SNMP/RMON add-in) and TkIned (Network Editor) were the platforms chosen and applied to the implementation of such solution.
