Attorney
Cleveland/Akron, Ohio Area
I was Honorably Discharged from the USMC in 1979, took a factory job through college and served as the President of a local labor union with about 140 members. I later helped to negotiate a labor contract for the same Union. All of which gives me a pretty broad perspective of life. I have since worked as an attorney for over 18 years in many different areas of the law.
When I first began practice, as a solo, I took on a number of criminal cases but left the area of criminal law after only a short while. As one example of my work I have a published opinion concerning a corporate criminal defense matter identified as City of Akron vs Holland Oil Company where I was successful in limiting the application of the Ohio Criminal Statute concerning Organizational Liability against my corporate client in a case involving the violation of liquor laws which I appealed to the Ohio 9th District Court of Appeals. For over 16 years I have worked in the fields of Labor and Employment, Workers Compensation, Plaintiffs Personal Injury (Automobile Accident Negligence cases only) and various other matters.
I have worked in both the Plaintiff and Defense sides of many of the areas in which I have practiced which I have found to be particularly useful in identifying issues, defenses and establishing a certain amount of empathy for the other's position.
I have represented Companies ranging in size from just a handful of employees up to over 450 employees. I have also represented individual employees in a wide variety of matters where I had no conflict of interest with the employer.
In May of 2008 I applied for and was granted admission to the United States Court of Federal Claims as I was working on a case involving a Vaccine related injury.
In May of 2007 I applied for and was granted admission to the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims as I have taken an interest in that area and look forward to my future development in it.
