Specialized in advanced image processing and image segmentation in the medical domain, I've been developing in the medical imaging domain since 2002.

I have extensive experience programming mainly in C++ under Windows and Linux as well as in project management and defining software architecture.

Implementation of a computer workstation which could be used to perform a virtual endoscopy of the small-intestine using 3D CT images. The workstation integrated real-time 3D volume rendering, a 3D haptics interface (Sensable PHANTOM®), and advanced image processing algorithms to detect a centerline in the small intestine.

The general field of the invention relates to, without being limited to, medical imaging. It finds applications for the segmentation and identification of complex structures such as vessels structures in volumetric images (3D images) generated by any suitable imaging technique such as computed tomography, resonance magnetic imaging or the like.

The present invention concerns a method for performing virtual endoscopy on a volumetric image of a lumen-defining structure having an elongated lumen, comprising steps of determining an unfolding axis substantially inside the lumen, defining sampling planes substantially perpendicular to and intersecting said unfolding axis at sampling positions, selecting ray casting directions in said sampling planes, performing ray casting to define pixel values, and arranging said pixel values into an unfolded view, wherein said ray casting directions are selected so that the angle increment between them is substantially inversely proportional to the ray propagation distance into the lumen, from the unfolding axis to the structure.
