    I left MTS Allstream in June of 2006 to take a one year career break. I took this time to fulfill some of my personal goals and spend more time with my wife and kids. I'm maintained a to-do list of about 50 things on a web site called backpackit. My objectives included learning to paint, white water canoeing, cycling, learning to program and getting in shape.

    - Learned to develop web 2.0 applications using Ruby on Rails, Javascript, Google Maps API (under development: www.waytobike.com)
    - Built an elegant and state-of-the-art home theatre room in my basement
    - Renewed my "artistic side" by taking oil painting lessons for 6 months
    - Joined fitness club and hired personal trainer for 3-months - got into awesome shape
    - Achieved white-water canoing certification
    - Backpacked in France and Italy with my family for 2-weeks
    - Got an Asterisk PBX up and running
    - Spent a lot more time with my wife and kids
    - Developed a great attitude toward work and life in general

    - Designed an innovative platform for managing network inventory and circuit layout based on Oracle. Administered database and Unix platform.
