Marketing and PR specialist for sustainable and disruptive technologies
Edinburgh, United Kingdom
I have over 25 years of marketing experience across all disciplines on the client and agency side working on international brands as well as on small local assignments. In the last few years, however, I have increasingly begun to focus on the B2B needs of clients wishing to market sustainable or disruptive technologies - such as cloud computing, LED lighting, microgen clean tech, rich internet apps, sustainable vehicles. Some of these are local and some global and I work with them as an extension of their marketing department or sometimes as their virtual marketing department.
A lot of these companies are full of technically brilliant people who talk in a jargon-heavy language that their customers don't always understand. They're also prone to rattling on about product features while ignoring the business benefits, so I help them to communicate with their target audiences in plain English about how their products will solve business problems. It works.
Nowadays my efforts are increasingly focused on digital media - websites, blogging, Twittering - and on briefing analysts.
And I mustn't overlook the power of networking - you're reading this after all. Networking is becoming increasingly important for B2B markets, but that means face-to-face events as well as online connections. Between the two of us in the Gupta Partnership we have a massive personal network of business contacts across the UK and beyond. Sometimes that alone can be an essential and powerful tool for a client who wants to expand his business and needs to access particular skills or resources.
There's one particular speciality that I've developed over the last two years. Setting up www.mygreenwheels.com has enabled me to act as a catalyst for the electric car industry, introducing designers and manufacturers of cars and batteries to possible partners, investors, local government, dealers, distributors and customers in the UK and internationally.
Go-to-market planning, PR, copy and website content writing, event organisation for technology companies - all the marketing stuff you don't have the bandwidth or experience to do for yourself.
Electric cars, blogging, skiing, golf, writing song lyrics, cooking, F1, British Blues (they're cats...)
