Senior Database Engineer at Webroot Software
San Francisco Bay Area
Since 1998 I have been focused on web systems and applications -- designing, building, and maintaining them. The last 4 years have been primarily LAMP development, 2 years at an ISP, Concentric, building customer-facing administration web applications, 2 years at VMware building internal web applications for the QA department, and currently at Webroot building out the database that supports their new Web Security product (scans all incoming network traffic for malware -- very cool).
I also have a deep background in electronic/electrical systems, nuclear power (systems and operation), and machine control systems (sheet steel mill).
Complex web systems: designing, building, integrating, maintaining, simplifying, and communicating and interpreting objectives. For the last few years, I have become more focused on the database design, both data modeling and schemas, and connecting these to the software object models.

October 2006 — August 2008 (1 year 11 months)
Built the QA Dept.'s Test Case Management System.
As the sole developer, gathered requirements and discussed features with directors, managers, leads, QA engineers, and testers. Evaluated several different off-the-shelf systems before settling with TestLink OSS as the base system. Spent 8 months extending the features and improving performance and reliability. Contributed code back to the open source project.
The system is well-used and highly reliable, although the interface was difficult to improve upon -- I really wanted to build the system from scratch. If anyone is interested in building a commercial Test Case Management System, I'd be interested in helping design and build it (PHP/MySQL).
