... yes but what exactly does an independent journalist do?

Well, I specialise in features. These are the longer pieces usually more in depth than the straightforwards "punchy" news stories. They're the things which populate business and consumer magazines, as well as the more longwinded sections of papers.

I love writing features. I get to meet people. Research things. Play with all the information and then pitch it to an editor. Maybe even get published and paid.

The thing is everyone, every business, is a feature waiting to happen. Because everyone, every business, is in some way unique and ground breaking. The skill is in finding out how and then stringing the words together to give other people inspiration.

This is a profession which will continue to enrich and fascinate me, while meeting my goals of contributing something meaningful to the world at large.

Sustainability is very much my niche. No matter how widely embraced the issue is today, I've been turning lights out and reusing plastic bags since I was in school.

My former life in business and IT has mixed well with this passion and my training as a journalist.
