Carlos Duarte do Nascimento (Chester)'s Experience
Software Developer
Uken Games
Privately Held; 11-50 employees; Computer Games industry
May 2012 – Present (1 month)
Software Craftsman
Best, Cool & Fun Games
Partnership; 11-50 employees; Computer Games industry
November 2011 – January 2012 (3 months) São Paulo Area, Brazil
Designed and developed a general-use level editing system, which, once embedded on games, allowed users to create, test and share levels for 2D-games (with a possible marketplace at some point in the future). The first version was Android-specific, designed as a market test, and as such it did not provide enough evidence for evolving into a full-featured product, but helped shifting the company towards a platform direction.
At the game-centric mobile advertisement platform (BCFAds), I performed a full overhaul of the SDKs that allowed Android/iOS game developers to integrate the ads inside their applications, and coded a few extra libraries for popular mulitplatform engines (such as C#-based Unity and Lua-based Corona), while offering some architectural advice on the platform's back-end system.
Software Product Manager (formerly Product Architect)
Apontador
Privately Held; 51-200 employees; Internet industry
May 2010 – October 2011 (1 year 6 months)
As the Apontador API Product Owner, managed the product from design to launch in less than three months, allowing third parties to extend the Apontador platform and enabling strategic partnerships and commercial contracts for local (point-of-interest) search.
Managed the final consolidation process of Apontador/Maplink Corporate Webservices development - a very important revenue source and strategic product for the company. Recruited (relocating, coaching and hiring) a highly skilled team of professionals which took over the product and ensured its continued development.
As a consultant and ScrumMaster at the Apontador.com website (the company's main consumer product, a top 30 website in Brazil, according to ComScore), aided on a full rework that adjusted the site's reliability and overall usability. Also implemented an e-mail notification system and helped on the integration of a 3rd-party gamification platform.
Technical Architect
MIH Group / NASPERS
Privately Held; 5001-10,000 employees; NPNJq.L; Internet industry
August 2007 – October 2009 (2 years 3 months)
Hired as a developer and quickly promoted to Technical Architect, developed software solutions for companies in Brazil, India, South Africa, Netherlands and Thailand, interacting with local product owners and programmers.
Solutions ranged from projects and architecture consultancy to full products, mostly targeted to end-users (e.g.: a desktop photo upload software for a website, a mobile client for a notification service, etc.). Also worked in tech due diligences on prospective buyouts.
Programmer
Euro RSCG 4D
Public Company; 1001-5000 employees; HAVS; Marketing and Advertising industry
2005 – 2005 (less than a year)
A productive, albeit brief (due to academic demands that made a full-time job impractical) participation here, in which I've consulted and worked in different software projects, mostly C#-based.
Systems Analyst/Programmer
Internet Group do Brasil (iG)
Privately Held; 201-500 employees; Internet industry
2000 – 2005 (5 years) São Paulo, Brazil
Built and integrated content management, registration and e-commerce systems over both commercial (Vignette) and free/open-source platforms. Got deeply involved with the development of systems for dozens of different sites, including the iG portal itself.
Owner/Technical Director
Quatro Multimída e Interatividade
1995 – 1998 (3 years)
Being one of the founders of this small but agile company, I've hired and participated in a creative team of developers. We've authored multimedia (Win16/Win32) software for Editora Abril, Editora FTD, STI BBS/Internet and other clients. I've also worked as Editor for the CD-ROM Mania magazine, which was co-produced with Editora Globo.
