Charlie Richmond’s Summary

I am an entrepreneur and inventor born in 1950. I was instrumental in the early development of sound design in the 1960s and 1970s. I founded a company in 1972 which continues to be responsible for major innovations and a patent in that field. I was also instrumental in the design of a major recording studio which I later owned.

I was active in the area of film sound and was the USITT's first Sound Design Commissioner and first sound design and show control editor for their publication Theatre Design & Technology and was recognized by that organization for my work. I led the group that created the MIDI Show Control standard in 1990. I currently live about 40% of the time in London, England.

I am currently rebranding Richmond Sound Design as an OEM provider of Virtual Sound System API software instead of end user products. This requires delicacy, diplomacy and across-the-industry acceptance of what is an evolutionary and, in the eyes of many, such as IBM, a revolutionary process. Please wish me luck -- or, better yet, advice!!
