Since 1983, Mr. Reis has worked in sales operations, marketing and field sales for United Electric Controls Company, a manufacturer of instrumentation and controls with facilities in Watertown, MA and Milford, CT. United Electric has distinguished itself as a leading practitioner of lean-manufacturing.
Prior to joining the company, he spent seven years as a general assignment and investigative reporter, earning two Pennsylvania Associated Press awards in the "Enterprise" category. The first was for a series of reports exposing corruption at Scranton State General Hospital; the second for uncovering vote fraud in Luzerne County, PA which launched a state attorney general's investigation resulting in fourteen criminal indictments.
Reis was a runner-up for the William A. Schnader Memorial Award in 1981 for "Outstanding Reporting in the Field of Law and Judicial Administration" for his reports on the failed Pennsylvania constable system. He joined WCIX-TV in Miami, FL in 1981 as a general assignment reporter covering stories that included the Overtown riot, the FBI's anti-money-laundering "Operation Greenback" and the drug trafficking trial of former Miami Dolphins star Mercury Morris.
An avid sailor, he has logged thousands of miles offshore in racing and cruising sailboats, participating in the Newport-Bermuda Race eight times; on three occasions as crew on the elapsed-time winner. Reis was a regular crew member on the 81-foot maxi Boomerang which gained yachting notoriety as winner of numerous ocean races including the Maxi World Championships, the Pan Am Clipper Cup, and the 180-mile Miami-Nassau Race, for which it set a course record in 1986.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Marietta College in 1976 and a Certificate of Special Studies in Administration and Management from Harvard University Extension School in 1993.
