As the co-founder and CEO of Simple Star, Chad provided the vision and leadership in creating a business that was recognized in 2007 by Inc. Magazine as one of the 500 fastest growing privately held companies in America. Under Chad’s guidance, Simple Star deployed the award winning PhotoShow platform to industry leaders including: Comcast, Time Warner Cable, EarthLink, Walgreens, Ritz Camera, Kodak, HP, and Shutterfly. Chad made history with Simple Star’s revolutionary PhotoShowTV service, which enables consumers to broadcast their own personal content to cable TV. Simple Star was acquired by Sonic Solutions and became the web products and services division of Roxio.
In 1998 Chad was hired by Macromedia to help define the strategy for, and execute the launch of, the consumer entertainment portal Shockwave.com. Chad served as Executive Producer for three years shaping and building a business that was sold to Viacom’s MTV Networks. In 2000, while on vacation in Prague, Chad’s passion for digital photography drove him to create PhotoJam, the first online shareable slideshow software. PhotoJam became an early success story of the E-comerce business model for consumer software sales.
As CEO of soundz.com Chad led a team that built the first music-based search engine for the web, as well as early webcasting of live concerts. Soundz.com also launched an interactive broadcast format that converged internet broadcasting and interactive television. Soundz was sold to EnterMedia, an online entertainment company that spun out of Creative Labs.
In 1993 Chad pioneered work in interactive telephony by creating a local, advertising-based entertainment information service called the InfoLine. The InfoLine provided people with movie, music and cultural event information and ticketing services. With the birth of the first web browser in 1994, All-Info.com went online as a “CitySearch-like” city guide. All-Info was acquired by TDS Telecom.
My career has been focussed on creating consumer digital media products and services in the areas of photos, music, video, gaming and animation. I enjoy providing vision for next generation products and services and then building teams that are able to create and deploy them to mass consumer audiences.
I enjoy staying connected to emerging trends and challenges across the digital media space by serving on advisory boards for: Kyte, IODA, LiveBooks and Tune-Up Media.
