I work in Hector DeLuca's lab with Ms. Carol Kiekhaefer comparing the effect of a Vitamin D analog on the incidence rate and progression of Type I diabetes in a special strain of mice.
We're currently experimenting with different ways of delivering the drug, including agar based food and oral delivery. The full study will eventually encompass more than 500 mice.
Duties include feeding, retro-orbital and maxillary bleeding for determining glucose serum levels and calcium levels, ear notching and tail snipping for genotyping and a lot more!
